Aspects of Law and Ethics Related to Technology

Dr Carlisle George, Co-Organiser/Chair, Workshop on Ethical and Legal Aspects of AI, Cambridge University, 16th December 2025

December 2025

Dr Carlisle George co-organised and co-chaired a workshop on Ethical and Legal Aspects of AI (WELAI 2025) at the AI-2025 Forty-fifth SGAI International Conference on Artificial Intelligence, Peterhouse College, Cambridge, England, 16-18 December 2025.

The workshop focused on addressing the societal, legal, and ethical challenges posed by the growing use of artificial intelligence, particularly the risks of unregulated and non-transparent AI in safety-critical and high-impact applications. It brought together researchers and practitioners to discuss and present technical and policy-oriented work on topics such as AI regulation, accountability, transparency, bias mitigation, and human-centric values. A key aim was to foster debate and collaboration that can lead to community initiatives supporting national or international frameworks for trustworthy, responsible, and well-governed AI.
